Installation and Maintenance — Accomplish a lot of floral groundcover landscaping in relatively short time — and enjoy easy maintenance:

INSTALLATION

As with all perennial beds, ground preparation is crucial.  Prepare smooth, loose, crumbly soil for your new wildflower sod, mixing in any supplements recommended for your soil type as desired.

Lay out your sod squares applying firm, even pressure to each piece as you go, with the intention of insuring good contact and adhesion, as well as a uniform surface.

Soak your newly laid sod thoroughly with water, making sure the ground underneath becomes adequately wet as well.

For the healthiest plants, don't forget to supply your wildflower sod with a balanced fertilizer, such as 20–20–20.

Then keep your wildflower sod moist for 3 to 4 weeks after installation ( depending on weather ).

MAINTENANCE

SUN — During the growing season, the plants which comprise your wildflower sod will generally need at least 4 hours of direct sunlight.

SUMMER WATERING — Although wildflower sod can be a delightful aspect of your water–conserving landscape strategy, during hot SUMMER months the plants will likely require a minimum of an inch of water per week.

WINTER WATERING — During the WINTER, make sure the soil does not dry-out for extended periods — some watering may be needed occasionally during periods of low precipitation and / or warm temperatures.

FALL — In the fall, your plants should be cut back to a height of 4 to 6 inches ( clean cuts are important ).  Leave the cuttings in place as a winter mulch and to increase re–seeding.

SPRING — In the spring, lightly clean the sod bed area and begin your normal fertilization and watering for the season — then get ready to enjoy your refreshened flower garden as its display of color and texture change delightfully throughout the season.
